Quiet Midweek

In which the necessary deeds of the week continue…

The first day of winter.
The week was still steely gray.
The chickens had not been back since Sunday.
And it was Aunt Petunia’s birthday.

Puck had recently become very interested in Collette’s old book collection. He examined them carefully, commenting on them like a professor who thought himself very important…
“This book was made thousands ago. Anyway, no one cares about these cities in these books. This is about many different countries in the world.”
And OLeif was enjoying lunch on the house at Brown Shoe.

By early afternoon, the sky was patch-worked again in Arctic shades.

In other news…
Grandma Snicketts seemed well-recovered from her pneumonia.
And Collette and Puck learned that St. Louis was home to urbanized coyotes and that the pervasive Japanese honeysuckle on their fence had migrated from Asia at some point in Missouri’s history. It had also been attacked by the British and Native Americans during the Revolutionary War in 1780 and was the originating city of corkball. The Arch had been designed by a Finn. And St. Louis had fifteen sister cities located in:

  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • China
  • France
  • Germany
  • Guyana
  • Indonesia
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Mexico
  • Poland
  • Russia
  • and Senegal

“This is the worst day of my life… because I always have to brush my teeth.”
– Puck
