In which Collette returns to old places, old times…
After nearly a year, Collette was called back into the church office. This time, for two months, now that the secretary was on maternity leave. Every Thursday and Friday.
But first…
OLeif woke up with a busted back. Likely leftovers from a former injury. Puck, to oblige, sat on his back to see if he could help.
“Yeah… I sat on his back for twenty minutes,” he told Collette, “and then I fell off.”
Then while Collette prepared breakfast, she told Puck that she would be at the office for the day. Puck had a prepared response…
“But sometimes you have to go and take care of people at a lonely theater. But now you can stay with me forever, because you already did that,” he said seriously.
The office was quiet enough. Daisy-Jean, Babe Ruth, and Sinai. Judah was at General Assembly, and Henri was with the junior high (including Linnea-Irish) for their summer camp.
And 55/56 year-old Babe Ruth talked about his hamstring injury from playing softball on the church team.
“I just haven’t been able to play hockey three times a week while it heals,” he said.
Back to the house where Joe had set up a tent in the living room before leaving for the dermatologist, Carrie was putting in caramel highlights with a sort of blueish-greenish result, Puck had found the Trader Joe’s apple-raspberry fruit wraps after returning from visiting Grandpa with Dad and Francis, and ‘chickpea flour’ had been added to the whiteboard.
OLeif was out to dinner with Simon and Alfonso, so while Puck spent the night at the house, Collette and Carrie-Bri hit the shops for some upcoming celebration.
And Collette let Puck watch The Prince of Egypt, or as Puck called it, ‘The King of Babelhem‘.
“Each person is born to one possession which outvalues all his others – his last breath.”
