River Drive
Another trip to Memorial for church that morning — this time, for OLeif (who was not required to play in church, or teach Sunday School that week), Collette, Carrie-Bri, Rose, and Puck.
For Puck’s first experience in the old Gothic church, he looked around at the other people in the pews and clutched his little matchbox cars. After Dr. Wintershine had taken the pulpit to preach, Puck started getting a little restless. Carrie quickly pulled out her Ood action figure. Puck knew this was one of the Dr. Who characters.
“Dr. Who!” he crowed, from behind his wow.
Afterward, they dropped off Carrie at Kayak’s where Lucia was waiting in her car to take them to the special exhibit at the Art Museum.
To make it another active Sunday, OLeif and Rose joined Joe, Ben-Hur, and Mollie upon their return, for lunch at Bandana’s. Not much later, they returned with Ben-Hur to join the family (after picking up Carrie from Lucia’s) for a river drive to the Finn Inn for dinner.
At first, Puck was a little concerned about the fish, who were flocking to watch Carrie make faces at them from behind the tank.
Linnea pulled out her fork and knife and flashed them in front of the fish tank. “Dinner!” she said to them, mischievously, and they scattered.
“Don’t do that,” said Dad. “They’re thinking you’re dinner. They’re all piranha.”
Linnea grinned. And then Dad was reminded of the river blindness disease inflicting millions of people in Africa, and began to explain it to the table. Carrie plugged her ears and sang a tune, not much a one for listening to horrible medical complications.
On the ride home, the conversations waltzed between marriage, scientology, and New Year’s resolutions.
