Rummaging
Thursday, Friday 27, 2006
Sometimes so many “busy” things happened, that it seemed rather dull to list them, but it was necessary for the record. And so there was a junior high youth gathering Wednesday night while Rose and Molly painted rummage sale signs, a brief visit to the coffee house for OLeif, Collette, Joe (who had just come from purchasing fresh tires for his bike), Rose, and Molly (who ordered an Italian soda from Joseph the Blue-Eyed, who was partially serving, partially planning youth events with the rest of the youth staff sitting on the couches and café tables with the Scottish youth leader from his church). And Thursday there would be yard work at the Swiss’ for Jimmy, Rose, and Bob B. as a project from the youth auction and dirt bikes in the country for Jimmy, Wilbur and Wallace Hobcoggin, Bob B., Plato Buckle, and their dad, and Joe. (Although Collette found out later that the plans for the dirt bikes had been postponed due to Scout activities.)
Ivy came in later after picking up drinks from Mobile, popcorn, and Milkduds for the snacking of the day. She also brought more rummage sale items, including a soft stuffed chocolate moose (which really did smell of warm chocolate), a camera and tripod, and a hand-carved candle which she had never used.
The remainder of the evening was spent for OLeif, Collette, Ben-Hur, Susie, Rose, Molly, Sunrise, Julia Poach, Tiffany and Lilia Roosevelt carrying in more donations to Green Gables. Tiffany also drove over to Mobile and returned with Oreos and bottled water for the crew. Later in the evening, Ben-Hur hooked up his iPod to the radio and wailed out some Stevie Wonder with a pair of rummage sale zebra sunglasses and a water bottle microphone, breaking out the moves to Very Superstitious.
“On the 96th day we sailed again,
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now!
When a bloody great Yankee hove in sight
With our cracked four pounders we made to fight
“G~d ~~~~ them all!
I was told we’d cruise the seas for American gold
We’d fire no guns-shed no tears
Now I’m a broken man on a Halifax pier
The last of Barrett’s Privateers.
