Seven Months In
Yali sat in Oxbear’s lap at church that morning, stroking his dad’s arm over and over with both of his strong little brown hands.
After awhile I leaned over to Oxbear. “He’s grooming you,” I suggested.
Oxbear leaned back over after a few seconds and said, “I prefer to think he’s playing double bass.”
Either way, the kid who couldn’t sit through the confession last week, stayed in the service the entire 90 minutes plus, tear free, this morning. Didn’t even whine when the plates of bread and wine were passed down the aisle. It probably helped that he was sitting turned around in Puck’s lap looking at a picture of our family on my iPhone that I hadn’t hidden fast enough before his chubby fingers located it on the chair. He never saw me skirt either plate behind his back to Linnea-Irish. Crisis avoided. This week.
At the Big House, noise was definitely in the works. Puck and Thumper’s little brother were ready for all kinds of chaos together, reunited again after a very loud trip to Six Flags earlier in the summer supervised by their aunt and sister, respectively. At one point they thought it was a good idea to snoop around Linnea’s room to see what they were up to.
“LET’S SPY ON THEM!” Puck announced way too loudly before they “tip-toed” down the hall to Linnea’s room.
The sound of ukuleles emitted past the closed door. But I’m pretty sure the girls had every clue in the world they were being spied on. Those boys are like a set of grizzly bears roaring through the woods together. Although they were talking about being scared of woodpeckers ten minutes later in the basement so, go figure.
Then Thunderbird and Annamaria joined the group with their beautiful fluffy white, ice-blue eyed husky, to pick up the blue Mustang that Francis had been fixing that week.
How Mom and Dad napped through everything, I have no idea.
Meanwhile, Carrie-Bri returned from another bunny day with Lonnie and Earnest; Earnest had enjoyed a successful bonding session with a potential new member of the bun-bun family. Dad said no more bunnies, but I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t stand. Guests had departed; so had Linnea for an ice cream social. Joe and Jaya walked in from the nursing home ministry. Cane’s chicken fingers graced the counter for dinner which no doubt helped contribute additional weight to the 12 ounces Yali seemed to magically gain in the past couple of days. And another Cards win on a steamy afternoon in August.
All in a Sunday afternoon’s work.
