Sick Days

A quiet day for the young kids at home, trying to recover from their ailments. Frances spent all day in Mom’s and Dad’s room over Gatorade. Linnea rested on the little rose couch in the living room re-watching Rose’s Christmas film collection, including The Little Drummer Boy and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Carrie-Bri had left for work at 5:30 in the morning and Joe was gone to work again.
And Mom took some time for herself that morning and went off to get her hair colored and cut, after she had restocked the pantry with soups for the kids.
This left Collette and Rose to work through her studies on that mild quiet Wednesday morning.
Come afternoon, Collette had Rose break from the studies to begin baking sugar cookies for Rose’s Ye Olde Cookie Decorating Gathering that Friday night, invitations being spontaneously emailed in Old English. Dad returned somewhere in the middle of shoveling the cookies off onto the counter to cool.
And, inevitably,
“Are these cookies?” Dad asked.
Dad was a bloodhound when it came to the sweets. This time, Carrie-Bri was not present to intervene, being more preoccupied with her writings on origins of symmetry, other dimensions, portals, etc. Dad read these papers rather quizzically, critiquing her grammar after completing them.
Then he helped himself to a piece of the ice cream cake when Carrie wasn’t looking.
Meanwhile, Joe had returned to hit the books after having cleaned four hundred plus cars with the rest of his crew. He and Mom later brought up the car for a wash and to get a tire fix on his new bike.
Before OLeif came to pick her up after his practice session for Sunday morning music, Collette and Linnea read another chapter in her Little House books. It was an unusually easy-going day, from start to end.
In other news, Carrie and Eve were looking at going to Australia that coming summer and saving New Zealand until after Eve graduated. Seeing as her school schedule only allowed a two-week break during the summer, Carrie had discovered that while the United States was experiencing the heat of July, New Zealand’s mountain passes could not be accessed, due to monsoon season and mud.
Meanwhile, there was Egypt just around the corner. Carrie and Rose had a meeting that evening to hopefully receive their detailed itinerary and their plane tickets.
