Snow Day

Thursday, January 7, 2010

A day snowed in — bright and filled with sun for half of it, and gray the other.

Collette and Puck spent their morning looking out over the expanse of white, and listened to a new mix of music that Collette had put together for Puck’s enjoyment, including selections from: Mulan, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, The Muppets Treasure Island, a couple of Arabic/Turkish selections, and Religious Man from Nacho Libre.
It was amazing how quickly a morning passed with sitting practice for Puck, reading books, music, and Puck raiding the kitchen cabinets for any available Tupperware and egg beaters ripe for the picking as tools for his imaginative play.

OLeif got off work at 3:00 to play with Puck in the snow. They made a miniature snowman on the barbecue grill, studded his face with peppercorns for eyes and a mouth, and shoveled the driveway together, until Puck’s soft chubby cheeks had turned red from the cold.

And Collette and OLeif each filled out their 567-question personality inventory for their psych evaluation required for the adoption.
Collette put a lasagna in the oven, and went for another twenty-minute jog before dinner, with Puck tagging along behind her as usual.

As Puck was prepared for bed that night, he began talking to OLeif about his thoughts:
“I make Sun happy. I make Sun happy ’cause I wuuuuuuv her… I wuv Grandpa, and Onion. I wuv pretzels…”

In other minor disturbances, Puck had inadvertently smashed a glass water pitcher when putting a container away in the kitchen cabinet.
And, Monday night, the basement television went kaput. It died in a glory of fuzz, flashes, and high-pitched whines. That was the end of the old monster that had seen many a night of comedy.
