Snow Day (again again)
The world all a blinding-white cake out the windows... about a zero degree windchill...
Now nowhere to go that morning – throw the hair into braided pigtails, pull out the bread and eggs for breakfast... a little winter jazz on Alexa for the kids...
Yali is already very busy giving rides in the plastic Jurassic Park jeep to his growing collection of home-3D-printed Dummy 13s... and examining the horde of Diablo, Fire!, and Avocado Verde Salsas sauce packets from Puck's second Taco Bell run last night...
Patience is reading her kids' cookbook aloud to me... beef empanadas, marble cake, chicken pot pie... puts on my garden apron and begins mixing muffins from scratch in the kitchen... stop her from dumping in ¾ cup baking soda instead of a vastly smaller amount of baking powder...
Yali's morning entertainment then continues by fully suiting up, including Puck's old snow goggles, back out with the dog into the four or so inches of snow so white it hurts the eyes... Patience joins him while the “muffins” bake...
Meanwhile Elmer has texted the sibling group from St. Charles County : the elusive Great-Escape mouse he's been trying to catch for some time – whom he has named “Moby Dick” – has finally been captured (and released at the edge of their snowy property... )
Kids come back in to warm up with “Harry Potter” and what turn out to be nearer hot popovers from the oven... eventually deteriorate into fights... expected after Yali's been “locked up” at home the past nine days...
While Patience begins filling out her new Irish dance practice journal in the mail...
Yali uses the new broom handle pieces (also in the mail) as instruments of kung fu against the banister...
After the kids stop fighting, Patience prepares butterscotch pudding from a box mix...
...while Yali is busy on his tablet asking me if I've ever tried an ostrich egg...
Patience and I leave at four o'clock for the studio... roads like running over tamped brown sugar and flour in many places... and those maddening reopened potholes... but manageable...
Driving home... some great tractor beam of mango light in the west...
