Another wet, cool day. But not cold enough for all the mosquitoes and spiders to have died off yet.
Collette and Carrie-Bri ran errands for the adoption, the grocery store (for spice cake, canned pumpkin, chocolate chips, peanut butter cup cookie dough, cinnamon apple spice tea), etc., for the morning hours, while Linnea had fun playing with Puck. And Mom read to him from The Magic School Bus.
In the afternoon, Collette was helping Francis was his papers. One of them was based on evolution-creationism controversies.
“How could anyone believe in evolution when they see that?” Francis said, laughing, pointing at Carrie. “Survival of the fittest? Ha ha ha.”
“Francis!”
“Well, no one knows how old the Earth really is either,” Francis went on. “Except God. And that,” he said, pointing at Carrie again. “She’s old enough to know.”
“That’s right,” Carrie said, wiggling her eyebrows. “I’m a time lord. 930 years old.”
She put a pan of tea on the stove to steam her face.
“Carrie’s recharging,” Francis giggled.
Some time later, before everyone left for the Halloween bash at church, Mom picked up McDonald’s.
Everyone sat around the table and discussed things, while Carrie prepared Francis’ and Linnea’s costumes. Francis was busy thinking about his go-cart again, as usual:
“Puff ‘o Lump, Creole, and me…”
“I,” said everyone to him.
“Me, Puff ‘o Lump, and Creole…”
Groans.
“Anyway, we’re making a couch go-cart. We’re just going to take one of the couches from the youth room and put it on a go-cart frame.”
Then Carrie got Linnea into her wardrobe. She was ‘Rose’ from Doctor Who, complete with the Union Jack top. And Francis was Doctor Who himself, in vest, tie, sideburns done in black eye liner, and a pair of glasses. He really did look like the real thing.
They posed for photos with Puck, who was in his Buzz Lightyear jumpsuit. And then they hopped into the cars with bags of Whoppers and Kit-Kats and headed out to church.
It was one crowded event.
Games, candy, hay rides, ‘cake’ walks, costumes… Even Sinai was dressed up in giant clown wig and tie, and oversized glasses. Puck enjoyed the activity and hurried from room to room to watch everything take place. Francis helped him at mini golf. And he shot a basketball in the hoop, after which he did the cake walk, twice, while Judah played the accordion.
