Spin Around

Friday, March 9, 2012

Puck requested a straw at breakfast. Collette handed him one with red stripes.
“Mama?” Puck giggled a little awkwardly. “I was presuming… an orange one.”
Hawai’i and Texas from Bing Crosby that morning.

As studies and readings commenced, Puck was very curious to know…
“Do mice have beards, Mama?”
“No…”
“Even when they’re old?”

Puck was always coming up with a new idea to participate in Collette’s daily walk. The past two days he had incorporated a sort of swing dancing addition, holding her hand and spinning at every corner they passed. It got a little wild after awhile, like ketchup and mustard, spinning around in red and yellow sweatshirts. As they whirled around…
“This is the kind of dancing I will do at the wedding.”
“What wedding?”
“When I marry Anneliese.”
“Well, you’ll need a job first. What are you going to do?”
“I’m going to be a Cardinal. After I marry Anneliese.”
“Well, you still have to have a job first.”
“I will play baseball. But first I will marry Anneliese.”
When Puck was tired of spinning, he arranged the piano bench at the cross between the living room and the hall. He asked Collette to write on a piece of notebook paper the following decree, which he attached to the bench…

Puck’s Bridge
Please do not cross.
There are “electrocue” cords
hanging from the ceiling.
Only Puck can cross
Puck’s Bridge.
The “electrocue” cords are invisible.

Puck’s Quiet Hour, as usual, provided inspirations shouted down the hallway…
“Mama! We’re gonna move! I want a house with stairs and slide next to it!”

He got busy building construction routes over his dinner after five o’clock with the orange connectable road from his Hot Wheels set, the salt box, goblets, jar candles, etc.

OLeif was out “camping” at Chet Danger’s house in South City with the other fellows. Joe was probably out gallivanting with Curly – who was apparently in town, Magnus was attending a concert, and Rose was scheduled to sit in on a Melaleuca presentation provided by Grewe’s family to Mom and Carrie-Bri.
So Collette’s evening included…
Another 2,000 words on the roster.
Washington and Snicketts family trees.
Completion of a creepy The Willows.
A little Spanish with Classical music.
Some Cardinals-Astros.
And a little peanut butter before calling it a night.
