Starting Decade Number Two
It was a four-day weekend for El Oso. This meant Puck would receive a full escort being dropped off at school. I was going to let El Oso walk him in without me (don’t want to embarrass the kid too much), but he requested that I accompany them anyway. Even gave me a hug in front of all the kids.
So El Oso and I spent the day finding stuff to do for our anniversary, one day late. For starters, in celebration, a volcano erupted in Iceland. But that was about as far as my plans went. Fortunately, El Oso had a few ideas.
Drove around a little in Ladue and Frontenac until we somehow managed to make an enormous loop back north to the airport where we watched a few planes land from the cell phone lot. After that thrill – it was a slow morning for air traffic – we drove south again.
Lunch at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. Every Friday morning at eleven they open their doors to the community and the elder generation with heavy accents, serving up plate after plate of good olive-oil and Feta-cheese enriched Greek food.
Our afternoon plans were equally lazy. We drive around the city a lot on these dates. The tour included a stop for a violin practice mute at Clemens and a Reeses Chunkage cupcake at Jilly’s.
Puck was ready for pick-up at three, swinging his Ironman lunchbox and catching us up on his day, which included more “harassment” from the girl in his class. I’m not sure it had much to do with her spirit of independent aggression or not, but Puck also informed us that her dad, “looks like a cowboy.”
Puck was then dropped off with Gloria, Mom, and several other ladies at the Silverspoon’s, who were concluding a three-hour lunch, while we drove back out to the Valley for “Guardians of the Galaxy,” El Oso’s second viewing. Walked past a car with Mexican plates inside for a box of Junior Mints and a cold theater.
When we reemerged around 6:30, it was about to rain. Schnuck’s for blackberry Izzes past a car with Iowa plates entitled: YARN.
Domino’s at home while catching pieces of the game here and there featuring Yadi’s return to the game, including another partial streaker sighting on the field.
It’s been a good decade.
