Storms

The leaves were even heavier on the trees that morning as the winds came in and skies were gray. It was too wonderful, especially because it looked as though the next few days would be the same.

The night before it had been warm. As Carrie-Bri and Collette took Francis to choir, and Linnea played with the other children, the heat was lying heavy in the air. The hour was sticky and warm until the drive home came. And suddenly, there were dark clouds in the west. By the time they pulled back at the house, the wind had picked up, the temperature had dropped, and everyone hurried inside to open the windows and doors to watch the storm. But first Collette hurried outside to wheel in the empty mulch bags, gardening tools, and potted ivy in the wheelbarrow with the flat wheel.

Early in the morning, Mom, Carrie, and Joe had come to pick her up and they did a little landscape shopping. There was fresh mulch to buy and ground-cover ivy to plant around the trees in the back yard. They looked over the scruffed-up weathered stones for later, to put around the fireplace. Collette found a lovely tray of hearty vibrant Asiatic lilies – stunning red and yellow, and encouraged them to plant some later with the ivy.
