Summer Break Day #45
- When things get a little too wild with Yali and Patience in the afternoon, I suggest they design their own flags; they decide to copy Colombia and China
- Bob and his new blue leg cast and crutches arrive for an overnight later in the day
- Heavy green muggy evening while the cats hiss at each other about random dumb stuff

Later that morning, I walked into the hallway where Yali was packing Patience’s giant stuffed panda in a cardboard box.
“Mom, our friend died.”
“I’m sorry to hear that, Yali.”
“Our friend Panda had a long life,” he said solemnly, as he began scotch-taping the Home Depot box closed.
“So what did he do?”
“He wanted to go up the roof and we said ‘no’ but he did anyway and then he jumped and he died…”
“That’s sad, Yali.”
“Oh, there’s blood…”
Awhile later, Panda was fully entombed with a silk rose scotch-taped to his coffin, and wooden plank tombstone resting on top.
A few minutes after that, Yali had drawn red magic marker claw marks on his face and hands. Wolf attack. He walked out to show me his sliced up hand…
“I hate that wolf.”
