Summer Hours

Collette was not pleased to be greeted by a huge wolf spider in the shower that morning. OLeif washed him down the drain with a tub-full of bleach water, but Collette still decided to skip the shower. Spiders were perhaps her worst enemy.

It was a dull day.

Hot, dry, and yellow.

Collette worked on her book. Puck was a little grumpy. Maybe it was growing pains. A DVD of new “I Love Lucy”s had come in the mail.

In more exciting news of the day, Rose’s snapshot of a baby robin had been selected as one of the “Daily Dozen” by National Geographic. The robin apparently thought that Rose had been his mom robin with a juicy worm for his lunch when Rose had taken the photograph.

The wind blew dust down the lonely road out front, pushing along a teenage girl carrying a load of laundry.

A crusty afternoon.

Collette ate a fish for lunch and watched Puck amuse himself until OLeif came home for an hour and juggled him around, citing original poetry:

My name is Puck Luck,

I like to yuck yuck,

I eat all muck muck.”

Later that afternoon, Puck was taking swipes at his stuffed animals. He gave the bumblebee a huge pounding. The bear came clean off. He scolded all three with loud squeals. And his bare piggies marched through the air to smack his bouncy seat.

Outside a yellow bus thundered past the house, full of screaming children.

Yawn.
