The Calm Before the Storm

[7:37pm] Sunday brought rain. Collette heard the thunder and saw the flash of the lightening before waking and once again heard the rain on the roof during the church service.

During the Sunday school hour, the kids were discussing amongst themselves whether Ezra took a boat across the river or the sea when he traveled from Babylon to Jerusalem. And a new girl was added to their group, whom Collette had babysat years before and had forgotten.

I remember last time I came here a long time ago,” she said to another girl across the table. “You were wearing a red dress I think. And I was wearing a white dress and my brother forgot that he had pancakes that morning. I’m the only one in my family who can remember things. And my dad never even thinks.”

Although she didn’t mean it spitefully – it just all spilled out like that.

Collette was disappointed after the great rain during church, to find that the sun had come out after the service. But there were great things in the plans for the afternoon of which she did not yet know.

It was lunch of quiche and rolls and sour fruits for lunch, with key lime pie and chocolate pie. Some reading of bizarre things such as Isaac of old marrying his cousin/aunt’s granddaughter, and frizbee with Frances and Linnea before youth… Wallace was along as well and they all enjoyed some laughs during the afternoon.

But the late afternoon, the late afternoon would bring amazing things in the skies…
