The Cankersore

Puck had a cankersore. Possibly his first. An after-effect of the cavity repair. So when the whole Snicketts crew gathered together after church around the lunch table, Puck had a hard time eating the meal because of the pain. Everyone had a recommendation for him.

“Crush up some aspirin and stick it in there. It’s going to hurt a lot, but then it’ll be numb for a long time.”

“If you bite around the sore, it’ll hurt real bad, but then it’ll numb it for awhile.”

“Yeah, that works.”

“Here, Puck. Stick one of these mushrooms between your teeth and your lip while you’re eating. It’ll be a buffer.”

“Just eat through the pain, Puck. Take it like a man.”

“Swish some lemon juice around in there.”

“How about battery acid?”

“I could just strap a piece of automotive tape over it.”

In the end, Puck followed his own advice, leaving the casserole mostly uneaten on his plate, and found easy distraction in the canker-less world of Minecraft.
