The Carousel
It was a day to visit Faust Park again.
Collette, Carrie-Bri, Linnea, and Puck arrived at the Butterfly House under gray skies and humid breezes. As soon as Puck walked into the jungle greenhouse, he took off for the little waterfall, nearly colliding with several ‘winged jewels’ on the way.
From all over the world in brilliant greens and blues, black with reds and orange and yellows.
Malaysia.
Costa Rica.
Ecuador.
Philippines.
Surinam.
El Salvador.
And other parts of Southeast Asia, Asia, and Central and South America.
Afterward, they walked over to the old indoor carousel. Puck starting shaking with excitement when he saw it.
“Go ’round!” he called happily. “Go ’round!”
Collette bought him a dollar ticket, and set him on a dark brown house next to Linnea’s horse.
“Sun come up!” he called to Carrie, standing behind the gate.
She waved to him and told him that she would watch him go around.
Puck gripped the pole tightly and was soon whirling around, watching the lights and listening to the music, wide-eyed, and having a wonderful time. It was his third carousel ride in the space of a year, and he would have most certainly taken another one, if given the option.
In the afternoon, with the clouds still threatening rain, Carrie made a peach cobbler, while Collette supervised Linnea’s geography. Then Puck helped sweep up the patio while Carrie gave Trooper a shave.
And the Colorado gang got in at around five-thirty that evening.
