The Clouds Here
Saturday, June 30, 2007
Saturday was a relaxing affair involving rain, “I Love Lucy”, and Puck taking a two hour nap on his mom’s tummy.
The only real noise of the day came from the sizzle and pop of fireworks on the “bad side” of the neighborhood (at least that was according to several of their neighbors down the street on the “good side” of the neighborhood).
Word came from Carrie-Bri via email. Apparently she was having such a good time in Australia, that she had plans to extend her stay for another week, spending it in New Zealand. She seemed to have fallen in love with the Auzzies and their country.
“…the clouds here are way cool,” she had written, “…I love the southern hemisphere!!!!”
Collette knew it would agree with her. Anyone subject to hypothermia would appreciate anything down south.
That Saturday, Carrie and Eve were headed off to the beach and to Australia’s China town. They had also been up to the harbor bridge and the opera house.
In the late afternoon, OLeif took pictures of Collette and Puck at the park. Little white mushrooms grew in perfect balls in the mud by the path through patches of grass and wildflowers labeled “Prairie in Progress”. The air had cooled and the woods were green, often a green so dark, it could have been black.
Come that night, while OLeif was in the process of creating a chocolate ice cream peanut butter shake, a precariously placed hand blender in a tall glass crashed to the linoleum.
Thankfully, the Puck was not awakened.
