The Coolness
Thursday, August 11, 2011
In which life continues in a manner only to be expected on an ordinary Thursday in August…
It was in the 60’s that morning. And for the first time in a very long while, Collette opened the windows.
Mali: Kora.
While Puck was working on his breakfast oatmeal, he pondered seriously a name for the shoe strap OLeif had given him…
“I am going to call this belt: Cool & Selfish. Isn’t that a good name, Mama?”
Meanwhile…
Mom and Dad were taking a day trip to Kansas City to visit with Great Uncle Fred and Great Aunt Rebecca.
Joe was headed out at seven that evening to Colorado with Wally, Thor, and another Thor-buddy for five days or so. Another cabin-stay.
And Rose’s car had been ordered.
During lunch-dessert, Puck sat on the vent with a giant banana, not very dissimilar to Earnest’s tactics, to cool himself.
He was also busy telling stories to himself in the hand mirror…
“But Mama is the most important of all.”
He insisted that he was preaching.
John Barry.
OLeif was out with the guys that night for the usual.
A call in to Mom and Dad, dining at Shakespeare’s Pizza in Columbia.
And Puck had hopes of playing with Hesed Rye the following day at his grandma’s house…
“It’s going to be a big day for Baby Hesed and me tomorrow,” said Puck importantly.
“[Julia] is essentially a red-headed force of nature. Whatever she does, she does with the passion of a thousand suns.”
