The Game of the Season

Collette woke under the weather. Sore throat and lingerings of headache from the previous day.
The morning officially began, however, with Puck locating an old Hickory Farms catalog in the library.
“Look at all dese tasty candies dat will kill you,” Puck said, shoving the magazine towards Collette’s face.
She had taught him well. If she couldn’t save herself…
Firstly, OLeif was dropped off at the Rye’s condo to help them move everything into the farm house on the church property. The next phase in their inevitable move to Ethiopia.
This was followed with pizza for lunch.
Meanwhile, the weather had suddenly taken a turn. The highs were to reach 50 degrees Fahrenheit. And the following week was predicted up to 60.
The next game was a good one for Linnea and her fellow teammates. 35 to 34. Win. Despite the fact of it being a 7th and 8th grade girls’ Christian basketball game, the whole gym was still enthusiastic and half-screaming. Francis was a little embarrassed at Collette’s level of enthusiasm. And Linnea scored a number of baskets herself, and overall, it had been an entirely entertaining event.
Over to the Silverspoon’s afterwards, where Izzy was gone to the ACT, and Theodore and Gloria returned later from the office.
Another bunch of red roses and baby’s breath on the table.
In the afternoon it was necessary to change the oil in the old Civic, who had just celebrated its ninth birthday before Christmas. Collette remembered the first time it had come back, just in time for her 17th birthday. She had driven it, with Carrie, to the 18 Cine to meet friends for the midnight showing of the very first Lord of the Rings, which so happened to be exactly the day of her 17th birthday.
While they waited, Collette watched a happy chubby Asian baby sitting on his mother’s lap.
And there was popcorn. And a V8 for OLeif.
Back to the Silverspoon’s where Puck had been running errands with his Nana, who had recovered completely from the flu or whatever it was that she had picked up the previous week.
Apple cider vinegar for Collette’s very sore throat.
There were stuffed peppers for OLeif at supper.
And Collette was glad to call it an early evening in order to rest her throat for the rest of the weekend.
