The Party

Puck spent his morning walking along the couches with chubby legs. He watched part of “Koyaanisqatsi” with Carrie-Bri chanting:

“Dah dah dah dah dah!”

Then he played “catch” with his Aunt Linnea, with a plastic donut.

“When somebody loved me,” Rose began crooning from the laundry room. “Everything was beautiful!”

Mom shut the door.

“Through the summer and the fall…” Rose continued to croak from the other side of the door.

“So Rose brought back part of an ancient cast-iron stove?” Collette asked Mom. “From where?”

“When she went on a walk with Juliet somewhere,” Mom tried not to laugh.

“One is the loneliest number…” Rose had changed songs.

Then a random argument started about Rose’s job.

“Enough of this stupid arguing,” Carrie proclaimed. “Rose, you’re a dork.”

And that pretty much ended it.

“I swallowed super glue last night,” said Rose.

Collette was not entirely sure she heard correctly how it had happened, but it had something to do with Fritos.

That night, Louis, Elizabeth, and Carrie came over with games, DVDs, and a feast.

“I tried to recreate our dinner at the convent,” said Carrie.

Rotisserie chicken, soft cheese, rolls, wine… then Blockus and “The Office”. It was almost like a gathering of the old days, plus Elizabeth. This was after Carrie had put on one of her old favorites, “Carnival of Souls”.

“I’m trying to understand why you like this movie,” said Elizabeth.

“It’s just so ‘Spirited Away’,” said Carrie. “Can’t you see it?”

Unfortunately, they could not, so:

“Okay, I’m embarrassed now, so let’s put on something else,” Carrie laughed.

The gathering ended at eleven.
