The Permit
Monday, March 22, 2010
Sunday evening, OLeif had shared some of the Sunday School lesson on world religions at Memorial. This included modern Chinese symbols, originating before the time of Christ. Words such as:
-
Righteousness: which was comprised of symbols meaning ‘lamb’ and the personal pronoun ‘me’.
-
Gift: ‘deity’ over ‘cattle for sacrifice’.
This was pretty wild. Another reason Collette loved history and archaeology.
On the way to the house, the radio announced a fourteen year-old prodigy pianist from Hawaii.
“This young man eats the piano for breakfast!” he announced.
Shortly before ten o’clock, Francis returned from testing for his driver’s permit. As soon as the front door opened, they heard Mom saying rather loudly:
“Now, Francis, next time I want you to study, study, study!”
“I will, I promise,” said Francis, head hung low.
“Mom, you’re such a bad liar,” Carrie said, laughing.
“One hundred percent!” Francis announced with a grin.
To celebrate, at Francis’ selection, there was Lion’s Choice for lunch.
In the warming afternoon, once Collette had finished damage control on six of Carrie’s dreads, Collette and Puck were outside. They put pennies in the holes of the dogwood trunk. And then Francis came outside to show Puck the car engine.
“There’s the transmission, Mama!” Puck said happily to her.
After their Monday-ly evening trip out for groceries, OLeif, with his pipe, and Puck, with his orange rubber ball (a gift from Saturday night’s visit to the store), ran around the backyard stomping in mole hills until dinner time.
Then Collette cut down OLeif’s hair while they felt the need to watch Buzz Aldrin on Dancing with the Stars. And Evan Lysacek.
