The Piano

Saturday, October 3, 2009

It was the day that OLeif got his piano. After meeting at the Silverspoon’s for Gloria’s omelets and blueberry pastries, OLeif left at around three in the afternoon with Theodore, Joe, Izzy, and Francis to pick up the rather large and extremely heavy old piano from Belleville.

Meanwhile, Puck had had a very enjoyable time spending the night, visiting the library and the grocery store, and sorting wood blocks on the deck in the chill late morning gray. And he was sure to explore the interior of the U-Haul trailer before the boys left on their errand.

Toward the dinner hour, Puck took a tearful bath.
“Look, Puck,” Collette had told him. “Nana cleaned the bathtub all nice for you.”
Puck came in to inspect.
“It’s beautiful!” he exclaimed with a big grin.
Once the greatly-feared bubble bath had ended, for Puck was still not entirely convinced that he would, indeed, not go down the drain, he was dried off and put into his red footy pajamas.
He amused himself with books and cars until the dinner hour where Gloria had mixed up a pan of enchiladas, chicken soup, and then key lime pie for dessert.

The boys returned towards seven o’clock and scarfed down dinner after OLeif presented them with one Red Bull apiece.

And then it was home to the new, yet very old piano — 98 years to be exact. Puck was very excited.
“My pano!” he proclaimed, hurrying over to press the cracked ivory keys.
