In which St. Patrick is remembered with nothing very Irish at all…
Collette’s just about first favorite day of the year.
And the hoped-for shamrock cookie would not be allowed.
But enough of lost sugary dreams, that were slowly tapering away in intensity as it was anyway…
Besides, there were far more important things to mourn in the world than exilement of cakes, breads, cookies, brownies, chocolates, sweets, and every other decent sort of edible…
At breakfast, the dragging Puck was, as usual, encouraged to speed up the process of his breakfast.
“You’re going to run out of time to play with Luke and Leia if you don’t start moving,” Collette warned him.
Puck start swinging his legs hurriedly as he shoved another bite of oatmeal into his mouth.
“Shaking my legs to get some more time,” he explained.
While reading books, with windows open to the beautiful morning, Puck examined the pirate book…
“Is that a bone pirate?” he asked.
“Yes, he’s a skeleton.”
“Why does he have a tongue? He shouldn’t have a tongue.”
Linnea-Irish arrived for afternoon help, just during Puck’s lunch, to the relief of a grateful Collette, who could not have managed the next several hours without her.
Bringing her over, were Mom and Carrie, who brought St. John’s Wort tea and two books on adrenal fatigue.
And Linnea herself was looking summerish in jean shorts, gray-print tank top, her wavy hair in low ponytails, and one of the sparkling emerald green shamrocks on her cheek.
When Luke and Leia arrived, they remained out-of-doors for most of the three hours. It was beautiful in 76 degrees and warm sun. The boys seemed most happy to occupy their time with ‘digging the biggest hole in the Earth’ in front of the house, and were reluctant to give it up when 3:25 arrived, and quite soon too.
A bath for Puck.
And Linnea next settled in to spend the night, after writing the rough draft of her next paper.
OLeif returned with Cheez-Its for Linnea and ‘awesome bubble-blowing solution’ for Puck.
Next: the basement flooded.
That silly miniature 1960’s main drain. Plumber before nine. Sanity restored well before ten, while Collette and Linnea watched The Karate Kid, 2010 version, with OLeif, ever the clown, joining in for the last bit with his personal peanut gallery script.
All in all, a slightly unconventional approach to St. Patrick’s Day…
