The Quest for the Ring

The day before Collette’s and OLeif’s first anniversary – The plan had been to take a good three hour hike on the Greenrock Trail with Joseph, “Shakespeare”, Elizabeth, Carrie, Joe, and Rose. However, as it turned out, Joseph called apologizing that he had just been reminded to dogsit that morning, and thus OLeif, Collette, Joe, and Rose, headed out themselves.

Collette soon began to wonder if it had been a good idea, for no sooner had they hit the trail, but Rose had named a box turtle, “Fred”, and a snail, “Fred, Jr.”, and both boys began shucking rocks and tree trunks into the woods to see how fantastically they might shatter against the trees and creek bed. It was more the march of the clowns than anything else.

Forty minutes brought them to fatigue, and so the most nourishing granola bars and trail mix could not even sustain them to continue.

It was a lovely picture there, in the forest with the early morning sun shining through the green and the great rocks and cliff walls mossed over. And then through all the lunacy, they enjoyed a quiet ride through the country and many a good guffaw and chuckle together.

It was World Market following that, where OLeif almost immediately knocked over a hand-painted glass picture frame which shattered quite magnificently. And there was a glass cylinder of Norwegian sparkling water for both Joe and OLeif, a package of Turkish delight, one each for Francis and Linnea. And Rose found a tin of rolled wafers filled with chocolate mint.

During the day, Collette was reminded of many things. Perhaps the most important was that she was secure in Christ Jesus. There was nothing that could tear her away from His salvation for her, not doubt, fear, worry, anger, illness, questions, feelings, temptation, or even any “inconceivable”, or sin, and the worst of the devil himself. She was safe in Him, no matter what battles raged spiritual war around her. And there was nothing more comforting. She was safe in His calling her, that deep peace and knowing within that He had drawn her to Himself and she was safe from everlasting to everlasting.

And in other news… Spurgeon West had made a grand to-do in proposing to his new girl.

Denae called OLeif as they pulled into World Market:

Do you have Mr. McCrae’s number from church? We need a metal detector here. He has one I think.”

Apparently, Spurgeon had taken his beloved out on a bridge at a park. It was night, and as he pulled out the ring, it slipped through his fingers, through one of the slats in the bridge, and into the mud. It was found the next day with the metal detector.
