The Sandwich

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

“Check this out,” said Francis.
He pointed to a Subway sandwich that Linnea was pulling out of the fridge for a belated breakfast.
“I put that in the trash last night, and then Grandma went hunting for it,” he said.
“That came from a public trash can?” Collette asked.
“Eew, your hair brushed against my sandwich,” Linnea groaned.
As if that was worse than being dumped in a public trash can.
It was the usual after choir concert hangover, and everyone had slept in, including Joe who had slumber-partied with Wally at the Hobcoggin’s.
Puck needed bigger shoes. So Collette brought him to Target where he fussed through trying on several different pairs, until they found some blue ones which he paid for with his gift card from Christmas. Mom and Linnea also joined them. The little fellow was exhausted from having stayed up till ten o’clock the previous night, and was very eager to return to the house for chicken nuggets, corn dogs, and “fry-fries” for lunch.
And in unpleasant news, it was reported that Wally had dysentery, the common illness contracted by soldiers in the Civil War. Apparently that “mountain stream” in Appalachia, hadn’t really been a mountain stream.
Boy Scouts.
