The Send-Off

Yali’s first day of Preschool, and his send-off was a grand one. No less than four 5th grade girls “escaped” morning carpool to accompany him to his classroom, administering numerous encouraging statements and “aw”s along the way, as Heidi assisted him with placing his snack of pretzels in the snack box by the door, and hugs were generously distributed to the lot before he marched into the room to see a toy shelf about a firetruck.

As the little prince explained to me later when I picked him up at 11:30, “Mom! I’m not a baby no more! I’m not a Captain ‘Pants no more! I’m not a pirate cocoa bean no more! I’m a BIG BOY!”
