Theodore Turns 60

Saturday, October 11, 2008

Theodore’s 60th birthday – at the Silverspoon’s. Most of them were gone, of course. But OLeif, Collette, and Puck arrived later in the morning, and Izzy was at home until working at five o’clock. Lunch was soon served – salad, steak or chicken, mashed potatoes, and iced tea. Root beer for Collette.
Then, over Reeses peanut butter cups, they watched a free documentary that had been sent to Theodore in the mail on Islamic radicals, essentially the Nazi-esque terrorism of a global network.
After discussing the soberness of the film, it was time to cheer things up, and Denae brought out the gifts. Texas cufflinks, a black and white photo of OLeif, Collette, and Puck, and several cards.
After doodling with some water color pencils, they left in two separate cars for the Honda dealership. Theodore was considering a new car, and took a test drive just as OLeif, Collette, and Puck were ready to leave for home for the day.
So the week was ending better than it had started, despite the morbidity of the masses. People could still be pleasant in doubtful moments in history. The timeline still pushed on, despite the elements of nature and man. It would end when it was meant to end.
