This is What's What

Rain woke Collette at 6:39.
So did another coughing attack – ug.

The fastest year to date – when was there ever a scrub-cleaned “To Do” list? – was coasting into another month of garbly spring. All that tweeting, chirping, buzzing, and scuffling. And dead-set days in the 80’s.

Puck got his “eye dance” on during breakfast with some Elvis.

Gloria had sent back a large sugar-rubbed yellow chick marshmallow pop for the Puckster, which he was finally given permission to eat.
There were always sundry requests and future ambitions from Puck… “Wrap this (pocket watch in red foil from a Dove’s dark chocolate), please, Mama?” or… “I have no time for writing today, Mama. I’m being a doctor today. I’m not playing doctor. This is business time.” and… “This is the ring I’m going to wear when I get married, Mama” [hill of shocking red rhinestones]… Request for “Lion King” soundtrack on cassette tape while cycling circles in basement as Collette boiled eggs and prepped sirloin chops. Puck had brought back a kids’ novel about baseball cards from the library for Collette… “That is just for you to read, Mama, when next you’re sick.”
The kid always had something going in his head…

The mail lady pulled up in a bright pink shirt, featuring a large green M&M shirt…
“I’m going to write you a letter goodbye,” Puck said solemnly, as mail and suckers were exchanged.
“Are you?” she said with a smile. “I’m going to cry.”
“Do you suppose we could live where she goes?” Puck had asked earlier. “I would be sad not to see her again.”

In the afternoon, he potted his own plant in the plastic punch cup he had washed and saved from Sunday evening. Some sort of white violet, maybe. Who knew until it bloomed again next spring.

OLeif brought back Entenmann’s chocolate-dipped cake donuts. Lifting one from the box and wolfing a whale bite, he transformed himself into a crane – business clothes-clothed – taking flight, origami-style. The power of the donut.
He hit the lawn, then the shower.

And it looked like Samwise would be in China for the summer.
