Thoughts Before Entering the Surgeon's Chair

Monday, January 30, 2006

[7:00am] Yes, it was the day Collette’s teeth were coming out, and she rather wondered what it must be like for those people out there who were obliged to have surgery, blood transfusions, or painful therapy weekly or monthly. Having teeth pulled was nothing. What about someone who was on chemo or who knew he had three months to live (and how to spend such time wisely), or even the kids in third world countries who had no access to pain relievers or good water and medicine… America was so spoiled, to be sure. The only trouble Collette knew she would have, would be watching the needle go into her arm, and so she would look out the window if she was in a room with a window and close the eye nearest to the victim arm. Meanwhile, she hoped to spend the first three days of the week giving Joe the needed to time to make more progress in his Eagle project and somehow making a big batch of ham and navy bean soup when she could get up and around, for OLeif. After all, the dude had to eat while she was out of commission.
