To London, to London

“Whoa!” Carrie cried.
She was sitting on the kitchen counter talking to Mom on the phone.
“Check out the ant super highway!”
She pointed to the back patio. Collette hurried over to look. There it was – stretched from one end of the patio to the other.
“That’s like six lanes of traffic!”
“Like twenty! Quick – get me the bug spray.”
Collette hunted through the newly cleaned garage for bug killer while Carrie continued her conversation with Mom on the back porch.
“All you have is various forms of weed killer,” Collette told her, handing a jug of poison ivy killer through the sliding glass door.
As Carrie began to take out the highway, the ants started to travel in slow motion across their drenched path. They would shortly be rerouting traffic through other streets.
By one o’clock, Joe was home from his Green Lantern interview in time to watch the snoozing Puck while Collette and Rose took Carrie-Bri to the Lucia’s. Their flight left at 5:05 for Toronto, where they would catch a connecting flight to London, arriving there at 5:25am St. Louis time the next morning
Collette left again for her walk after Puck had had his dinner. The strange light of the sun as it hung full in the heavens before an evening storm calculating in the northwest. Collette returned just in time to hear thunder rumble from the beyond.
