To the Mall
By the time Collette and Puck had arrived at the house that morning, Carrie had cooked up a large breakfast of bacon, scrambled eggs, pancakes, and sliced kiwis for the three buddies — Cherry, Eleda, and Linnea.
Puck seemed rather overwhelmed with the bubbly trio, and watched the girls warily from behind his wow. It didn’t take him long to warm up to them, however, and he soon began to talk to them and pass out little toys as peace offerings of his warm regard.
Then Carrie-Bri and Rose had a debate on what was actually inside the “big black box” at Mecca — the bones of Mohammed, or a meteorite.
At about 11:30 that morning, Collette and Francis escorted the three girls to the mall (where they also purchased pretzels (two for Francis)), Old Navy (where Cherry almost went spastic over an entire wall of vari-colored flip-flops), and Gordman’s (where all three girls purchased a few selections of candy from the rolling shelves next to the picture frames).
Then to choir, for the lot of them.
When Collette returned to the house, Puck was just ready to wake from a few cuddly slumbers. And Mom had come home after helping the Pie’s box up their house, and with a new hair trim and color.
Collette was happy to come home that night in the quiet cold and catch up on her writing.
