Tombstone Surprise
Tuesday, May 30, 2006
Later, Carrie-Bri called Mom from New York on her way to Macey’s to buy Grandma a little something, knowing that Grandma loved Macey’s, and was having a good time.
Over the holidays OLeif and Collette ended up at various places over town, Monday. First they stopped by the Silverspoons where OLeif worked with Red Crosse Knight Rauschenbach on networking and Theodore watched them unravel the problem. Red’s wife, Torah Clocks, sat in the kitchen with Denae and Collette, telling atrocious stories of her job at Linen and Things and of their preparation to adopt a child, etc. And Collette visited the party at the park twice with Denae where the kids played softball over barbecue and then they were rejoined with Theodore and OLeif who played horse shoes with Mr. English and Thor. Joe went off with Aristotle George to purchase a sound system for his car. And then there was Silky’s ice cream after going back to the house as a great blue storm came in while Joe (Mr. No Shame himself) posed for Rose’s camera in front of the ice cream crowds.
Tuesday morning –
“Collette we found a tombstone with your name on it at the cemetery yesterday,” Frances told her, his arms still bandaged up from the bike incident.
“Collette Maritime Silverspoon,” Linnea said.
“It was kind of surprising to look up on a tombstone with my daughter’s name on it,” Dad had said the night before.
“It was showing the future,” Frances giggled.
“And I found my name on a tombstone – Linnea,” Linnea said. “And I was married to John – beloved husband,” She laughed, batting her eyes.
Meanwhile, Carrie-Bri and Eve would be picked up from the airport at four o’clock that afternoon, after Mom and Mrs. English had spent lunch together in New Town. Carrie also had news that Paige Popp had called off the wedding with her man in Afghanistan. Carrie had suggested it was a little early to be purchasing dresses, but Paige didn’t agree. And so now, two hundred dollars poorer,
“I hope you girls can find a good use for those dresses,” Paige told her.
Meanwhile, Collette lifted weights (in measly portions of ten pounds apiece) in the basement while she quizzed Rose on history. And she put Joe in the hall to study with the light on after Mom accidentally turned it off on him.
“Mom, you owe me ten dollars for that,” he protested in the darkness. “And you get a lollipop full of inch worms.”
And while Linnea made a dog-bed of pillows and Carrie’s bedspread on the living room carpet and a cat habitat on the rocking chair, Mom headed out with Mrs. English.
In other news, Ashley-Sue had lost her passport and thus could not fly back to Dallas to head out with her class for six weeks in six European countries. Molly was not entirely sure what would happen, and when she would actually be able to fly overseas. And Lucia was in hot water with Grandma, Uncle Mo, and Aunt Petunia for going camping at Meremac with Queen, and not telling anyone about it. It had been Mrs. South’s birthday only the day before.
