V-Day and Angry Robins

Friday, February 11, 2005

The morning began with the knowledge of a good rainy weekend coming, as it was hoped.

The night before, OLeif and Collette had decided to send Diana fresh beautiful flowers for Valentine’s Day. They chose a bundle of blooms and set it for delivery that Monday, the 14th.

The note read:

To a beautiful independent young women:

Who needs Valentine’s Day anyway?

We love you, Diana!

Your best pals – OLeif and Collette”

Unfortunately, Collette caught too late that she had indicated the note to read “women” instead of “woman”, but there was nothing to do about it, as the order could not be changed.

Meanwhile, both cars were dead that morning. And so, OLeif was obliged to walk to work while Mom and Joe picked her up for work. Upon OLeif arriving, he informed Collette:

I almost got attacked by a robin.”

And that was the big news of the day… except for the minor detail of having to purchase a new alternator for the rusted white Taurus. Colette became even more certain after this experience that Hondas were her favorite cars.

On the upside, there was a warm chocolate croissant from the Bread Company once Mom and Joe picked her up for work, which helped things out nicely.
