Valentines
Valentine’s Day provided much comic relief that year, including Joe’s profile picture: “sugar lips”. A Joe original, inspired by Rose. Curly’s away message read:
“Valentines + no girlfriend = CHOCOLATE FOR ME!!”
Magnus’ away message read:
“Home alone for the rest of the day.”
Or something to that effect.
Rose went around the house muttering to herself:
“I hate Valentine’s Day.”
It was a day full of love.
Some time in the afternoon, two letters arrived in the mail for Frances. Two valentines with no return address.
“What? Frances? What is this?” Collette and Carrie-Bri asked him.
Frances was stumped. Both were homemade cards in hand-drawn camouflage. One was shaped as a heart. Both had been kissed with pink lipstick.
“Is this a joke, Frances?”
“One of your guy friends maybe?”
“They were written by girls, at least the cards were.”
“And whoever wrote it, knows how to spell ‘Anonymous’.”
Puck was more interested in his Cheerios. On Wednesday he had enjoyed making them dance by pounding his tray. After ruining his first two outfits of the day, he eventually went home wearing Frances’ t-shirt which OLeif and Collette had bought for him in the Caribbean. He looked like he was wearing a white dress.
Nothing like visiting the tattoo parlor on Valentine’s Day. Lucia came over for the day, and after she and Collette had their drawings put together, they were out the door. Later, Carrie returned with the bandaged left arm.
“It bled more this time,” she said.
Collette was glad she had never experienced getting a tattoo. And Jacob wanted more too.
“Ah!” Carrie winced, grabbing her arm. “So that’s why they told me not to put scented lotion on my tattoo!”
“You didn’t really, did you?” Collette asked.
“Well, there was no other kind…”
And as for OLeif, Collette, and Carrie, they spent their evening watching LOST.
