Viking Kin
The Ides of March.
Over at the house that day…
-
Mom and Linnea took Joe to his doctor’s appointment.
-
Collette and Carrie researched Mrs. Field’s gift baskets for the arrival of little Whisper.
-
Carrie taught Joe how to make Turkish coffee.
-
Rose began her first successful day on the new job at 8:15.
-
Francis brought up his Beta fish from the basement.
“It’s his social time,” he said.
-
And Puck had been taught, by Rose, a new phrase, for no particular reason: “That’s the law!”
Around noon, word came from OLeif that there had been a little bit of a disaster…
Somehow, and for no very good reason, the Pyrex baking dish which housed the lasagna Collette had left for OLeif’s lunch, had literally exploded inside the oven. At only somewhere between 150 and 200 degrees. Collette couldn’t understand what had happened.
In the afternoon, while Collette worked with Francis on his mathematics, Carrie-Bri gave Puck a darling hair cut, and then took him on a walk.
Collette also discovered, while they were out, that the family was also related to a string of Vikings who bore such titles as “The Noisy” and “Skull Cleaver”… and other inappropriate mentions such as human sacrifice, etc. And Irish princesses and French kings.
That evening, OLeif, Collette, and Puck hit the library the following list of Collette’s books and DVDs:
-
The Quiet Man (for Mom)
-
BallyK
-
Beijing 2008 Highlights of the Games
-
Murder on the Orient Express
-
The Knowledge Book: everything you need to know to get by in the 21st Century
-
The Complete Book of the Summer Olympics: 2004

Heavy Words Thrown Lightly: the reason behind the rhyme
After groceries, the later evening was reserved for Reeses peanut butter cups and Monsters vs. Aliens. It was a Redbox week apparently.
