Watchin' Tunes

Thursday, May 21, 2009

Francis dropped over to the house after his orthodontist appointment to mow the lawn. One mow closer to owning OLeif’s PSP. Within an hour, including a break for a glass of water and some chicken, Francis had completed his task. He then returned, with Mom (who Puck was now calling “Greema”, as he called Gloria, “Neena”) and Linnea, to change for the choir party at the park.
That afternoon, Puck woke up in a spectacular mood and began playing with a little iron cowboy on horseback.
“Giddy that up!” he cried, popping the horse across the red couch.
“Watchin’ tunes?” he asked later. “Watchin’ tunes?”
‘Tunes’ were the two DVDs of around-the-world cartoon musical ditties that Grandma Combs had given him for his birthday. He loved them. They were also catchy, and covered everything from the Trans-Siberian railway, the Pyramids and the Great Wall of China, to Jerusalem, Norway, and who reached the South Pole first.
“Gah!” Francis would often cry when they came over. “Why’d you bring this again? They’re so annoying!”
And then he’d sit down and watch it with Puck.
