What a Happy Time That's Sure to Be

It was strange being home during the morning hours. Collette was not entirely sure she enjoyed having so much time alone. She thought about Diana; even though away from home, she would be enjoying her friends and her lunches at Saga, her editing and team meetings at The Record, an hour of violin in the practice rooms, perhaps a football game now that the weather was cool…
It was likely the same for others: Justus in Tennessee, Rapunzel Milk at the all-girls school in Columbia, Missouri, Clover in Kentucky, Lollipop South’s brother in Rolla, and many others. People were all growing up and enjoying their experiences.
She thought of the old song Mom and Dad had sung together over the years. It had been a long while since she had heard them sing it:
What a happy time that’s sure to be
When my Jesus is coming after me.
I hear him calling me away
From this old world forever to stay.
And when I take my Savior’s hand
In that blessed promise land,
I’ll shout and sing through the endless ages,
“Oh, what a happy day!”
Oh what a happy day,
It will be when we gather there!
Oh what a happy day,
When we climb those golden stairs.
We’ll be with those who have gone before:
James and John and a million more.
Oh what a happy time that’s sure to be.
Oh what a happy day!
It was finally the cool of the autumn that had come with the light winds and scattered clouds in the sky. Collette was thoroughly looking forward to the fall.
