Yet Another Evening of Intelligent Conversation Melting into a Visit to Steak 'n Shake
Saturday, February 25, 2006
[7:22am] Saturday morning saw Germany with a staggering 27 medals, and America with 23. With one and a half days to go, Collette thought it was interesting that America had remained in second place within the medal collection.
Friday evening had been spent for OLeif, Collette, Joe, Magnus, “Pepper,” Augustus, and Molly over John Piper’s second lecture, which Collette found wonderful as always – another reminder to herself of the intensity of God’s glory and the speck of her own being. But the conversation soon deteriorated into silliness as Magnus stroked his lizard beanie baby and talked of his controversial collage. Pepper seemed rather out of the thought-circle for awhile and walked out the door for some fresh air without really saying anything. Molly and Collette semi-snuggled under an afghan as the weather turned cold. Joe and Augustus seemed to find the (what Collette used to call) “popcorn-popper” toy amusing while OLeif stressed his points shaking a baby rattle in one fist, and there was general laughter and joking as usual. Steak ‘n Shake soon remedied the discussion and there were general cartoon-drawings as Jimmy dropped by later. And to the pure delight of Shakespeare, he found a substitute personality for the Turkey beanie baby – Collette herself. He was quite excited on the subject.
“I just couldn’t think who the turkey could be,” he said. “At first I thought Molly, but, no. Collette is the turkey. …Yes!”
As Augustus had joined the troop in the back of the car that evening, he was introduced to the land of the Magnus & Molly Play Box, and seemed to be soaking it in as they traveled back to his home, “across the tracks,” as OLeif was keen to point out.
