All That Goodness

CardGals: Episode 7: Oscar Taveras Tribute

While we sat on the parking lot at school this morning, waiting for drop-off in the gym, Puck listened a little in awe of my stories from Israel – the time I almost died. Everyone has that fraction of a moment somewhere in life where they were “this close” from the end. Mine just happened to be a pick-axe a foot from my head. I don’t know how it came up, honestly. Probably from thinking about Oscar so much.

Carrie-Bri and I wrapped up our Oscar Taveras tribute before ten o’clock in our personal recording studio: Dad’s mostly sound-proof dungeon office. Sometimes a cat sneaks in here and there.

Then joined Mom in shopping which included piecing together Linnea-Irish’s Halloween costume for the weekend youth retreat. She was going as her favorite super hero: Jon Jay.

It was already time to pick Puck up from school. If these days just don’t roll over in minutes.

One of the moms of his buddies handed me a wrapped pumpkin cookie, frosted orange.

“This is for Puck. He rode in my car today for the field trip. I bribed all the boys that if they were good, they would get a treat.”

I guess it worked.

Field Trip Number 2 on the year had been Powell Symphony Hall for a kiddie concert, which apparently was successful. And then Puck’s book report back at school which he was a little too embarrassed to talk about when Carrie-Bri asked him how it went.

We hit up Five Below on the way back – a sort of updated Nagle’s novelty store – tracking down more items for Linnea’s costume. Puck spent his recent allowance on a giant mesh-covered soccer ball.

More goodies back at the Big House: Minecraft jams for Halloween/ Movie/P.J. Day at school on Friday. And another Carrie masterpiece in the form of Puck’s Halloween costume – a trash can. “Fake” garbage and faux crow included. The crow was a parking lot find by Linnea.

With all this goodness, I packed up my son with a slice of leftover lunch pizza for the ride home where El Oso was waiting to drive him to Trunk-or-Treat at Old Church.

Crazy times to be 7.
