Buddies
It was still raining when I got up late that morning. A green world, for August. Crackers joined me in a quiet kitchen. In thanks for me serving her breakfast, she decided to lose her breakfast right in front of me on the linoleum. I pretended not to see.
By the time we arrived at the Silverspoon’s, Curly and Lulu had already left for the drive back to Nashville.
Puck had taken full advantage of spending the night by Minecrafting at the kitchen counter in his jams. He was waiting for Tiaan to join him. And about two hours later, the 7th grader and 2nd grader were very busy making block-worlds in the office. Yet somehow their loudness carried down the hallway to the living room.
“TIAAN! I’M MAKING THE DIAMOND HELMET!”
“PUCK! HURRY AND COME BACK HERE!”
“TIAAN! TIAAN! MAKE ME RICH!”
“NO, PUCK! COME TO OUR HOUSE NOW! IT’S OUR ONLY CHANCE!”
So while they were busy doing whatever these Minecrafters do, El Oso got his eyeglasses repaired, Izzy made guacamole, and Theodore looked at the newspaper for what was coming to the opera.
Later, Puck and Tiaan discussed stuffed animals during both lunch and dinner, old-time friends. One of Tiaan’s relics, a plush bat – as in mammal bat – was named “Flappy Bat.” Puck confirmed that I would bring Donkey and Buck to church tomorrow to meet Flappy Bat.
“We’re going to let them have conversations,” he explained to me over burgers and Izzes.
I can only imagine what they’ll have to discuss.
And while Puck spent the night for a second consecutive evening – there’s only two days left to summer, so he can milk it I guess – I caught the game from downtown.
