Ch. 197; Vol. 10
“I want to wear the guacamole shirt [taco truck] and my trousers [pants with suspenders] today, Mom.”
Puck’s wardrobe was discussed, given the new inclusions purchased by Carrie-Bri and Rose the previous week.
Carrie filled me in on the crazies of mini vacation in Nebraska, including the surprisingly tasty falafel wrap in Omaha.
Then Grandma’s spunky physical therapist arrived at ten o’clock, gushing about the roses and greenery in the front of the house, [which, I have to admit is sort of like a wild royal garden. Pre Noah’s Flood sized jumbo growth plants.] So that took about two hours or more. Grandma would probably be staying on for at least another month, was the initial consensus, to regain strength in arms and legs.
Francis set a stack of math books on the dining room table then disappeared. Three minutes later he walked by with a power drill into the basement…
“I’ll be right back.”
My brother.
Lunch hit fast. Carrie set out pulled barbecue pork, and homemade cheese puffs – these squishy, chewy little golden buns made with tapioca powder, eggs, cheese, etc.
Mom was running errands for Grandma.
Algebra with Francis while Puck built a “TUNNEL OF DEATH!!” with folding chairs and blankets in the basement.
Linnea-Irish shuttled to volleyball.
Francis out the door to work before he could finish homework – mix-up with the schedule. Wasn’t happy.
Dinner.
Things hit quick when there’s work to do.
Puck asked Carrie about hipsters while she made peach crisp…
“So what is a hipster, Puck?”
– slight pause to consider –
“Lila said that you go to a land where people are hipsters. She told me that… She told me all the secrets.”
Curly was playing solo at Vanbuskirk’s that evening – coffee, cigars, chocolate truffles.
One point five hours of people from the olden days; that circle somehow stays intact. My son collecting rocks in the landscaping – fossils, quartz, patterns – and bottle caps. Many, many, many bottle caps…
“I’M GOING TO HAVE A FORTUNE IN CAPS!!!”
He and Mom counted 70 of them together, which he stashed in his empty Styrofoam ice cream cup. Proud and enthusiastic to begin yet one more collection.
