First Family Outing

It was about 12:30. Yali’s naptime. Since yesterday, he’s toweled up the tears a little. Maybe he’s thought better of the whole sobbing to get some attention tactic. He’s moved on, I guess. Today, he was holding a conference between his stuffed animals – American Bear, Donald Duck, and Buffalo. I’m not sure what was going down over there, but certainly someone was being diplomatic, because there was an occasional laugh from their host, rolled up in a baby blanket on his bed.

While Yali got busy snoozing, Puck joined Eddie in a small Nerf gun war somewhere in the streets. Until the mosquitoes drove them inside. The mosquitoes have been ridiculous, as usual.

Yali was woken about fifteen minutes early from his usual two o’clock up-and-at-em hour. We had plans to watch “Inside Out” at the theater a few miles down the highway. It would likely be Yali’s very first experience inside a movie theater. I guess you could also say it was the very first outing for our little family, just the four of us. I don’t think I can count that visit to the pediatrician earlier this week.

The chap did alright. Popcorn helped, of course. For both boys. Spoiled rotten for just a couple of weeks while Oxbear’s still on paternity leave. I certainly never got popcorn at the movies when I was a kid. Come to think of it, I only remember going to the movies once before I was fifteen: the re-release of “Cinderella”. Riveting.

Puck usually joins Yali’s bedtime committee now. It doesn’t mater how macho of an eight year-old boy he is, even Puck can’t resist the chubby cheeks of his little brother.

“Say goodnight to Yali, Puck,” I told him.

“Okay. Goodnight, Yali.”

“Alright, bud. Let’s go.”

Slight hesitation on Puck’s part. “Okay, Mom. … Just let me squeeze him once because HE’S SO SQUISHYYYYYYYY!!!!”

Because Oxbear and I were also spoiling ourselves these two weeks – a vacation after the not-that-much-of-a-vacation in South America – he ordered in pizza. And cheesy bread.

Caught the game, wrote more in my book, Magnum Gold bars, Seinfeld with Oxbear after the game. Matt Holliday six days back off the DL after a Grand Slam in Chicago the other night.

Definitely spoiled.
