Happy 2, Yali!
Between current family members, we already had at least seven June birthdays. We could now make that eight with Yali turning two somewhere down in southern Colombia.
We started our morning with the balmy voice of Iz, inspired by the short film before the feature last night: volcano love song.
Oxbear – at his buddies’ advice – had foregone the work-out and breakfast to spend our last Saturday before departure at home, playing Minecraft with Puck. After they built more onto their worlds and downed some scrambled eggs, we scratched off more of the to-do list.
Because June is a busy month, we sometimes had to allow for double celebrations. Our second round included pre-Father’s Day and Izzy’s 22nd birthday, and Joe’s by proxy, that Saturday afternoon at the Silverspoon’s.
Izzy had requested fish tacos – always a good choice, even for this picky Yankee – fixings spread out all over the counter, including homemade guacamole, and a little tequila for those who would.
It was cigars and coffee on the deck for the three oldest gentlemen after dinner. I’m not sure about Puck’s thoughts regarding these manly events for his personal future. But he had no problem staying inside to wrap up another session of Minecraft, pumping the summer – and the weekend – for all it was worth.
Banana pudding was also served. Puck looked admiringly at the bright red bowl brimming over with pudding, sliced bananas, and vanilla wafers.
“I’ll have ‘all you can eat buffet’,” he announced, handing over his bowl for a serving.
Since it was Yali’s actual birthday, before dipping in we sang him a little happy birthday with two candles stuck in the gooey surface. I’m guessing he would have gone to town on that stuff if he had been present.
Meanwhile, the rain let up on this final very warm day of spring. Storms were coming. It was time for summer. I just hoped we’d get back before it was over.
On the drive home, Oxbear and Puck briefly discussed the future position of the Bible in the New Heavens and New Earth.
“Maybe we can use all the old Bibles as decoration,” Puck decided.
