Improvements and advancements
Wake to news of Matt Carpenter's retirement from baseball...
...as Oxbear and Yali leave for play therapy...
...and Patience and I for volunteering...
It's already afternoon... billows of wind pushing in mottled patches of clouds in cream whites and slate grays and chalk blues that would ordinarily bring heavy rain... but not today...
Yali is hanging out with his cousin down the road for a few hours...
While Puck and Patience throw barbs at each other across the living room between math sheets and vehicle title paperwork and Army recruiter emails... “I have prettier headphones than YOU do...” Puck ignores this comment and begins to argue over the historical masculinity of the color pink which leads to Patience tossing jokes at him... “Why are chimneys always free?” // “Why” // “'Cause they're on the house!” // “Patience... that's not funny at all” // “Then why are you smiling?”...
This terribly enlightening conversation is then interrupted by Puck discovering a very unpleasant deposit left by his cat on my hand-knit sunset afghan draped across his army cot... “NO!!!!” he thunders... immediately the guilty beast is removed to the basement storage room with the door shut behind him... but Puck's cat is not used to these spartan living conditions – he is truly a spoiled spoiled boy – and his pitiful meows begin soaring back up the stairs to his master researching self-cleaning litter boxes on Amazon... MEEOOOOOOW!... MEEOOOOOOW!... within three minutes Puck is beginning to crack... “Well... I guess he can come back up now...” Cheese is happily returned to his life of choice and Puck has purchased a deluxe litter box to appease the apparently very displeased beast...
Wind is rolling through all the velvet greens and burnt-magenta roses as Patience and I leave for the studio...
Sitting on the parking lot – windows down – for an hour between misplaced thistles... spiky purple pincushions waving at passing traffic... a few plopping raindrops...
At home before six o'clock... Yali is fully navy in his Class A Cub Scout uniform for the evening...
Logan Park for the final Cub Scout advancement ceremony... tosses down some free Papa John's before walking forward with his buddies to pass from Webelos to Arrow of Light... growing just won't stop... and tearing around the playground afterwards with the whole pack of kids... giant orange-red yolk of a sun setting just west under fair winds...
