Summer Break Day #39

  • Yali spends time on his homemade “trapeze bar” in the carport, made out of some straps and a metal bar removed from something, I’m not sure what…
  • Yali somehow manages to easily lift a 40 lb. kettle bell, roughly equivalent to his own body weight
  • Puck teaches Yali how to use the punching bag with a “secret punch” (a.k.a. taped roll of quarters), for use against any potential future “bullies”
  • Early evening, Yali manages to coax his sister outside to play with him on false pretenses that Grandma had just arrived
  • Puck tests his strength in the basement – a favorite pastime – and punches through a spare floor tile, first punch, no effort
  • Sit in the hammock at sunset, knitting amongst the fireflies

Puck, contemplating how most teenagers are sort of “weak” these days…

“Most teenagers aren’t like Dad and my uncles. They were tough. Dad, Elmer, Francis, Curly, and Izzy… they were like, The Squad. They just liked to blow up stuff. Mostly Francis though.”
