The Magic

With Mom and Dad just leaving for Branson, Francis in Pensacola, Florida, with a good buddy, and Linnea-Irish working one of her last shifts at Dairy Queen, we had silence on the set for Podcast Episode 32.

A quick morning and early afternoon later, Puck was collected for the ride back to the Big House.

It didn’t take him long to run out some of his after-school wackiness in the backyard. But first, an important reminder:

“Hey, Mom? Can you brew me up a snack? I’m feeling pretty pesky.”

So while he scrounged in the bushes for “treasure” – mostly old dog toys from neighbor canines – I rigged up a bowl of potato chips from the pantry.

Twenty minutes later, Puck stuck his head through the front door.

“Yes? You called me?”

“No, honey. We didn’t call you.”

“But I heard someone call my name … Do you think it was God?”

I could see Carrie-Bri in the dining room, duck and cover for the laugh.

“Well … what did the voice sound like?”

“It sounded like,” he lowered his voice deep. “GUS!”

“Well, go back outside and if someone calls you again, let me know.”

Samuel and Eli.

We did notice one of the neighbor girls run by a few minutes later, calling for him.

After macaroni and cheese pizza – not bad – while Puck took in another viewing of “Mr. Peabody”, Carrie sneezed. Suddenly, “Mr. Peabody” went on hold.

“Was that a magic sneeze, Sun?”

“I don’t think that it was…”

“It’s okay. I don’t believe in it anyway,” Puck turned back to his movie.

“Except that … I think it was.”

Puck whipped around. “What is it? Where did it go?” He was trying very hard not to believe in the magic sneeze, but couldn’t help himself.

After some scrounging around for the landing point, the results of the magic sneeze were discovered in Mom’s and Dad’s room: disappearing Tardis mug. The skepticism of Puck runs light when physical gifts are at stake.

Girls “movie” night was Carrie-Bri, Rose, and myself watching the game while Linnea-Irish and Eleda English reserved the basement for “I Love Lucy” and chip dip.
