Victim Four

Sausage, eggs, Sister Schubert’s cinnamon rolls. Gloria was ready to feed the whole tribe before the Great Unwrapping commenced. Christmas #5 (or #6 … I’m not entirely sure) had begun.

Chocolates, microscopes, board games, tool sets, arts supplies, wardrobes, cappuccino machines … Everything sounds better in plurals. Kitts knitted me a cowl in Harry Potter colors, which I ended up wearing the whole day. In exchange, she received a boxed kit from Carrie-Bri and myself to instate her as an official Lady of Scotland at Dunans Castle. Cash for Cards tickets, which I purchased immediately … It was a good haul.

Little Elvis was seven months old now and attacked the wrapping paper, joining the family between naps. I mixed tartar sauce and edited. Bær and Izzy arranged the family photo. Puck browsed his Simon’s Cat books and tested the microscope with Curly: kinetic sand and Kitts’ blood. Relevance jammed on Curly’s guitar, then crashed for a short nap. Curly and Lulu experimented with the cappuccino maker. Kitts knitted. Theodore checked the weekend weather and walked Elvis around in the mild afternoon. And Gloria prepped sea food, with sweet potato crusted cod and sparkling grape juice for certain members of the family. No shrimp or wine for me. I guess I just require special treatment.

Puck passed around the microscope at the end of “lupper”. Each person had their chance to investigate the quality paper napkin under the lens.

“Let’s skip Elvis,” Puck advised, eyeing his cousin chewing on banana and celery. “He’s sort of sticky.”

Elvis laughed at Puck’s funny faces. Curly shared some Minecraft time with Puck until he crashed in the basement with a sore throat. I guess it’s just December. By then it was already five o’clock, and Elvis was going to bed. I remember those 14-hour nights.

So things were pretty good. Sort of humming along. Until …

Dun dun DUUUUN!

Bær succumbed to the bug. And out of left field, too. Fortunately he made it home before … well, you know.

We put him to bed, I read Garfield to Puck and put him down for the night (around discovering that the Black families and Travis and his family had also experienced the same virus that week), and then I made three stops for Swanson’s chicken broth, Perrier sparkling water, bananas, and Saltines.

Hooray for just squeaking by with making it through all five Christmases!

Puck’s Blog: Day #17

I got a new skateboard. I tried it out. I fell on my tailbone.
