After Christmas

A little quiet to catch up on the first rounds of Christmas.

The morning was basically one explosion of Legos, Minecraft Legos, modeling clay, and Minecraft hot beads. And of course Minecraft itself and more Adventures in Odyssey. Puck’s dream-day.

Mid-morning, Puck pulled his bike out of the garage. Maybe he grew three inches in the past month, but he clearly needed his bike seat raised. We still followed the perimeter of the neighborhood, Puck straining to push the pedals, seated way too low for his own comfort.

It was so mild outside, when we got back, I opened the windows. Seems like we had a few days like this last December before … the bomb. Early January I’m pretty sure they shut the city down for a day or two after maybe 18 inches of snow or more. Gotta have a few weather landslides for the kids.

Anyway, the afternoon was close to balmy. And yet all the neighborhood kids were either packed indoors or away for the holidays, so Puck biked about ten minutes of laps, and returned indoors to his Christmas toys.

Dinner and a Movie.

Our Puck-and-Mama tradition, usually on Thursday evening. But tonight it was:

Appetizer: Roma tomatoes.

Main course: chickpea pasta in tomato basil sauce.

Dessert (Korean-style): bananas, frozen blueberries.

Fortunately for myself, this is a just-about-right meal for my seven year-old. How he did not inherit my taste for non-vegetables, non-fruit, and non-meat, still baffles me.

Movie: “Pete’s Dragon”, a curious Disney musical from 1977, featuring lighthouse operator: Mickey Rooney.

When El Oso joined us later that evening, Puck got into his soft new footie pajamas, just as El Oso cranked up some crazy music in his library. Dance party. Puck creates dance moves I never knew existed. A fusion of his own inspiration and at least two uncles who have very, very … very little shame.
