Summer Break Day #26

  • Oxbear investigates the banging around in the basement at about four-thirty in the morning where Puck and his friend, Bob, have been constructing a skateboard out of scraps and tools, wood-burning their names under the board
  • Wake to find more cat vomit on the floor, which is now a daily occurrence
  • Discover that, due to a nearby water main break, the water has been shut off, hours before the next post-adoption visit
  • Final in-home post-adoption meeting is conducted from the picnic table in the carport, with our social worker of eleven years, concluding just before a rain shower
  • Visit the Big House with Mom and the girls later that evening, with a roll of knitting; discuss things like sermon quality, the Lost City of Atlantis, and gang violence on the East Side

Trying to communicate with the water company about the water being shut of…

“In a few words, describe what you are calling about.”

“Water shut off.”

“You are calling about shutting off service?”

“No.”

“What date do you want to end service?”

“No. Cancel.”

“June 11th, 2020, right?”

“No. Cancel.”

“My mistake. Tell me the date you want to end service.”

“Cancel!”

“June 11th, 2020, right?”

Yali, coaxing Patience to gather their goldfish crackers off the trampoline…

Yali : “Else or the SNAKES will get them, Patience.” He set one commanding hand on the top of her head. “The SNAKES will eat your BLOOD. And your whole BONES!”

Patience, shaking her head : “Yali. That don’t make any sense.”
